Speaking

In this section you can train your oral expression. We are going to use the activities for B1 and B2 levels in LearnEnglishTeens, a British Council webpage addressed to teen English learners like you.

*Remember that you can choose the topics (always in B1 and B2 levels) and work on your own. In that case, please let me know which ones you do and how enjoyable and difficult you find them.

Throw the dice and speak about your result. The blue die refers to the main topic and the red die refers to the sub-topics. For example, if the results are a blue 5 and a red 5, you have to describe how the worst house in the world would be.

Follow this tips when preparing your monologue:

  • Before speaking, take 5 minutes to think about the key words and look them up in a dictionary. Also, listen to the pronunciation of these key words.
  • You can write down a schematic outline with the key ideas you want to say. Try not to read this paper when speaking.
  • Remember to use connectors and linkers: first, secondly, then, also, next, finally...
  • Don't be afraid to mispronounce. We are just practising and we need to learn from our mistakes.
  • If you don't know how to say a word in English, DON'T WORRY! Try to express the same by using other words, that's paraphrasing.
  • After speaking, Nora will give you some constructive feedback. Pay attention and keep it in mind for next time!
