More than dictionaries

In this section you can find some reliable online dictionaries and other useful resources that will help you to improve your vocabulary and pronunciation.

1) English Vocabulary Profile

Created by Cambridge University Press, the English Vocabulary Profile helps you to look up words and expressions (idioms, collocations, etc.) by its language level (A1-C2). You can also generate lists of words for each level as well as filter words using the advanced search functions. For example, you can find out what 'food and drink' vocabulary B1 learners should know.
There is a British and American English version, and there is audio pronunciation for all entries!

2) Cambridge Learner's Dictionary

Cambridge Learner's Dictionary is a specific resource very helpful for beginners and preliminary EFL students. It is much more than a simple monolingual dictionary. Here you can find different sections that will enrichen your English learning. We strongly recommend the "Word of the Day" section, in which a new word is posted every day. And remember it's FREE!

3) WordReference

WordReference is probably the most used online free dictionary among language learners. It includes lots of bilingual dictionaries from English into other world languages. You can also select the English monolingual dictionary or the Thesaurus (for looking up for synonyms). There is a "Word of the Day" section and you can listen to the pronunciation of words in different accents.

4) Linguee

Imagine you need to know the meaning of an idiom or a phrase... It can be very difficult to find its translation in a dictionary. Linguee is a free translator much more better than Google Translator. You only have to type what you want to translate. Then a selection of texts with the same idiom or phrase comes up and you choose the best for your context.
